Step by step

  1. Download the Licensed Insurance Entities 2026 from the PIA's licensed entities page.
  2. Find the insurer named on your policy or receipt. General insurers sell motor, property and other short-term cover; long-term insurers sell life, funeral and health policies.
  3. Find the person who sold you the policy: brokers are listed together; agents are listed under the insurer they work for. An agent should appear under the insurer named on your policy.
  4. If the name is missing, do not pay. Ask the insurer to confirm in writing, and report the seller to the Registrar (pia@pia.org.zm).

Why it matters

Insurance on assets, liabilities and interests in Zambia must be placed with a licensed insurer (section 166), and an insurer that accepts business from an unlicensed person breaks the Act (section 18). A premium paid to the licensed broker who arranged your policy counts as paid to the insurer (section 26(4)) (Insurance Act 2021).
